Using social media sites like Facebook to cross-market your blog or website is vital. But sometimes when you see a post or link it doesn’t have an image associated with it.
This has been an issue that has come up a lot recently with several MavroCreative clients. They create a blog post on their site and want to promote it on Facebook. So they write up their Facebook post, provide a link to the blog post but don’t see an image. Or they link to a page on their website that has been recently updated and Facebook shows the old information in the link.
Fortunately, there’s a really easy fix to this problem: the Facebook Debugger!
Let’s look at an example of how this works. We wanted to post a link to the About Us page on the MavroCreative website. But when we added the link in our Facebook post, this is what appeared:
You can see that an image did not appear with the post. We need to tell Facebook to “scrape” new information and show the image. Fortunately, this is really easy to do.
- The first step is to go to the Facebook Debugger link: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/. Simply copy and paste the URL of the link that you are posting to Facebook in the Input URL box and then click on Debug. Once you do that, a new dialog box will appear (see below). Now click on Fetch New Scrape Information.
- Go back to your Facebook post and re-paste the link that you originally wanted to post. Now the image(s) that’s associated with that page will appear!
We hope this quick tip helped you solve your “missing images” mystery when creating a Facebook post!
